From the METRO Solutions website, the following projects are scheduled by approximately 2012:

  • Nearly 30 miles of Light Rail Transit – In the North, East End, Southeast, Uptown and University Corridors;
  • 28 Miles of Commuter Rail Transit (CRT) – along U.S. 290 from Cypress Park & Ride to Intermodal Facility and along U.S. 90A from Missouri City to Fannin South Park & Ride/Rail Station;

“SmartWaySA is a process to develop VIA’s Long Range Comprehensive Transportation Plan. The Plan will establish policy structure, set forth strategies, and provide a framework for directing future transit investments in Bexar County. Long-range transit plans: Austin

From Capital Metro’s 25-year “All Systems Go” Long-Range Transit Plan:

“Capital MetroRail [commuter rail] is preparing for service to begin soon. The Red Line will run on 32-miles of existing freight tracks between Leander and Downtown Austin. Potential future service along Capital Metro’s freight tracks from downtown to Manor and beyond. Potential future extensions along TxDOT’s abandoned MoKan Rail Corridor are also being evaluated. Any potential future rail service would require a referendum.
